Job Readiness Training for unemployed or underemployed minorities in economically distressed areas. The Foundation will serve as the grants manager on this project, with training being held at its computer labs. The funding requested will be divided between 5 community collaborative partnering entities. The training will focus on Employability Skills Training, Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills, Basic Customer Service Functions and Grooming. Customer Service Training is also one of the areas we have highlighted for the year.

Resume Writing

Participants will be encouraged through creative exercises to discuss career possibilities by identifying personal skills, strengths and values. Reflecting on activities and discussions, participants will be supported in identifying and developing purpose and personal meaning their work and careers. Should I use a functional resume or a chronological resume? What is Career Objective? What makes a resume stand out and catch the employer’s attention? We will begin to explore the fundamentals of creating powerful and dynamic resumes. Then, participants will begin to identify transferable skills and career objectives that form the backbone of a strong resume. Participants will then begin the writing process of creating a viable resume that will be completed at the end of the course.

Interviewing Skills

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with an effective, simple and structured model of interviewing. Participants will develop the skills and abilities to perform effective interviewing and communication skills.
Job Search Skills

Researching, networking and making contacts are all steps in conducting a successful job search. We will actively examine these key elements in searching for employment over several classes. How to search the Internet for employment opportunities will be presented along with strategies on how job seekers can gain access to jobs they are eligible for.

Customer Service Skills

More and more companies are increasing their use of the telephone as the quickest and most convenient way of establishing customer contacts. Call centers and mail order are the fastest growing operational departments for many organizations. It is essential that all employees represent their organization in a professional and friendly way. Clear and effective communication is essential to ensure that the business is not lost.
This course will ensure that participants always project the correct image to potential customers and clients to make companies stand out from the crowd. It is designed for anyone who uses the telephone and is written with both the customer and the organization in mind to maximize service and customer care.
